Community Champion 

Job Title: Community Champion 

Organisation: FISY a charity working under Sheffield Credit Union ( a not-for-profit organisation)

Location: This post will be based in the community, within Sheffield and surrounding areas

Working Hours: 4-6 hours per week

Salary: £12.21 p/h

Type of contract: Initial contract of 6 months with a view to extend

About the Role 
We are now looking to strengthen our team with the recruitment of these exciting new posts, community champions to work in the community, primarily in: 

S5  Area Inc. Southey green, Longley, firth park 

S6 Area Inc. Hillsborough and Upperthorpe 

S9 area Inc. Darnell, Attercliffe, Wincobank  

Although you may be required to work across Sheffield and the surrounding areas.  

Our champions will primarily be working in community hubs, libraries and various community and public venues within the target post code areas. Champions will assist with the filling in of application forms where necessary, this can be in paper format, or online, where you will be able to direct them to our sign-up page and fill out forms that are appropriate, including the membership form. 

As a community Champion you will work and support Sheffield Credit Union to help those financially excluded by offering them safe borrowing, equally we are reaching out to grow membership of Sheffield Credit Union with savers including the promotion of our young savers scheme. The Community Champions enhances existing communication strategies in local areas, and focuses on working with grassroots advocates from communities and establish Sheffield Credit Union as part of these existing networks along with the development of new ones. 

To be successful in this role you will be someone who enjoys working with people and really making a difference in the community. Be an individual who contributes effectively to a team environment as well as having the ability to work independently, who is able to communicate effectively and engage with a wide range of audiences.  

Skills and Experience

Essential: 

  • IT literate including Microsoft packages 
  • Ability to independently travel around the city to the venues 

Desirable: 

  • Experience of working in the community (voluntary or paid) 
  • Experience of working within the financial sector 
  • Knowledge of Credit Unions 
  • Knowledge of life events that can result in financial exclusion 

About You 

You'll be naturally friendly person who works well both independently and as part of a team to deliver great results. You care about the community and thrive working with local schools, councils, local charities and various agencies within  

As you'll be out and about and interacting with the local community including vulnerable groups, you'll need be over the age of 18 and able to pass an Enhanced DBS check.
