Location: Sheffield Credit Union, Sheffield, UK. In-person post – in the office daily

Working Hours: 35 hours per week - Monday to Friday 8.30 to 4 – some flexibility around hours

Job Description 

Sheffield Credit Union is seeking a proactive and experienced Lending and Collections Manager to lead and manage the credit union’s lending and collections functions. The role involves overseeing the full loan lifecycle, from application through to repayment, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and maintaining high levels of customer service. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in lending, risk management, and debt recovery, with a commitment to supporting our members' financial well-being.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead and support a team of underwriters, admin and credit control officers.
  • Recruit, onboard and induct new employees
  • Train and mentor the lending and collections team to achieve performance targets and deliver excellent member service.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
  • HR issues and formal line management.
  • Responsible for ensuring sufficient staffing levels are in place to optimise delivery of key lending and credit control operations.
  • Customer resolution , remediation, complaints and compensation redress
  • Production, maintenance and ongoing improvement of products , processes and functions.
  • Responsible for following protocols and policy guidelines in all areas.

 Loan Management:

  • Oversee the entire loan process, including application, underwriting, approval, and disbursement.
  • Develop and implement lending policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Drive high levels of performance, achievement of KPI’S
  • Facilitate, manage and implement change to improve and develop service
  • Achievement of income targets on Loans
  • Management of data integrity, data security including maintenance of the required audit trail.

 Credit Control Oversight: 

  • Manage and monitor the collections process to minimize delinquency rates and loan losses.
  • Ensure follow business strategy/policy
  • Use of systems /tools /reporting methods to manage team
  • Collaborate with external agencies

 Member Engagement:

  • Collaborate with other departments to provide education and guidance to members regarding loan options, credit management, and debt recovery.
  • Maintain a high standard of customer service to enhance member experience and satisfaction.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and present regular reports on lending and collections performance, including key metrics, trends, and forecasts.
  •  Provide insights and recommendations to senior management for strategic decision-making.

Compliance and Governance:

Ensure all lending and collections activities are in full compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and audit standards. Stay updated on relevant legislation and industry changes.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven experience in Lending /credit management or collections within a financial services environment.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills with the ability to develop and motivate staff
  • Strong understanding of financial regulations, risk management and debt recovery process
  • Analytical mindset with a strong ability to asses creditworthiness and manage risk.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with members, staff and stakeholders.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism and commitment to ethical lending practices
  • Experience with financial software and loan/collections management systems
